Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR)

WHO WE ARE

The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) is supervised by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology. The Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC) is one of the three institutes of HCMR and conducts research in the fields of biodiversity, structure and dynamics of the ecosystem, ecosystem management and genetics of marine organisms.

WHAT OUR EXPERIENCE IS

The scientific object of the Institute of IMBBC is to conduct research, technological development and to search for, authenticate and identify the origin of new and/or improved products and organisms, mainly in the fields of biodiversity, structure and dynamics of the ecosystem, ecosystem management and genetics of marine organisms. The IMBBC includes a biodiversity and ecosystem management department, a Skyscan 1172 micro-computer tomograph lab, a bioinformatics unit and the genetics and molecular biotechnology department equipped with a next generation genome sequencer FLX.

WHAT WE DO IN EU BON

  • Assess biodiversity data sources, harmonize the European taxonomic backbone and explore citizen science
  • Analyze distribution data, trends in populations and scenarios of biodiversity change
  • Optimize monitoring designs and quantify uncertainty
  • Test information services, analytical tools and stakeholder services (case study area Amvrakikos wetlands)
  • Promote the EUBON dissemination and outreach plan

IN EU BON WE MAINLY CONTRIBUTE TO

WP 1 Data sources: requirements, gap analysis and data mobilization
WP 4 Link environment to biodiversity: analyses of patterns, processes and trends
WP 5 EU BON testing and validation of concepts, tools, and services

WE ARE ALSO INVOLVED IN
